VLC Media Player Skips Frames for HD Fix

Is VLC media player slow and skips frames when playing 720p or 1080p HD videos? Here is one of the tricks which may make VLC play smoother.

1. Go to Tools->Preferences

2. Click on Input & Codecs, then tick Use GPU Acceleration.

3. Restart VLC.

Now, try playing your favorite HD clip. If it does not work, revert the settings. It's worth a try.

Update:

Aside from GPU acceleration, you can also try reducing VLC's post processing by using the settings in the picture above. Remember to restart VLC.

Also, change VLC's priority to high in Task Manager.
